Day 5, Nyon-Crans

Man waking up in cabin of sailboat

Good morning sunshine!

Today’s journey will be short, as I will be staying the night at my brother’s place in Crans, the next town from Nyon when sailing around Lake Geneva. It’s a nice day and there’s wind, so I take the long way crossing the lake and tack back to Crans. It’s mid-day when I get in the harbor. Visitor spaces are at the end of the jetties. Since it’s early in the day, I want to put a coat of varnish on the grabrail that Stephan and Jelena sanded while bored in between swims. It’s important my vessel looks its best.

There is another cousin of mine in the area, so I send him a message to see if we can get together. He answers back that he lives fifty meters from the marina and offers a dinner invitation for me and my brother. I take my first shower in three days at my brother’s house, and look forward to sleeping in a proper large bed tonight.

Cousin Romain is a great cook. He’s prepared beef filet, grilled vegetables and roasted rosemary potatoes hosted on his large terrace overlooking the lake and harbor in the company of his lovely wife Galina. Roman is as an authentic Swiss Banker as they come, as well as the owner of two restaurants, the Crêperie d’Ouchy and Crêperie de Gstaad. He’s pretty successful, a new father, triathlete – and I repeat – a great cook. It was good to catch up and see his little family, I’ll have to come back soon, especially if I’m sailing around Lake Geneva.
